How much does a Lasting Power of Attorney cost?

The cost of a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) can vary significantly depending on individual circumstances and whether you are using regulated or unregulated providers.  However we can tailor our service to fit in with your requirements.

Basic Service 

For example if you are confident to do some of the work yourself we can prepare a single LPA application for £195.00 + VAT.  For two LPAs the fee is £380.00 + VAT. This entails taking your instructions over the telephone and posting the completed forms out to you with full instructions.  Once you receive the LPA you then need to sign it in the presence of a witness.  Your attorneys must also have their signatures witnessed.  You also have to arrange for someone to act as a certificate provider to confirm that you have mental capacity. This can be a professional such as a doctor or solicitor or someone who has known you for at least two years.  A certificate provider cannot be an Attorney.  Once the application form has been signed, witnessed and dated you then submit it to the Office of the Public Guardian with the registration fee.

Full Service 

For the full service, which includes personal attendance, legal advice, completion of the forms on your behalf, witnessing of your signature (you are the donor) as well as your attorney’s signatures. We can act as certificate provider and will submit the forms to the Office of the Public Guardian on your behalf.  We will monitor the progress of registration and request updates from the Office of the Public Guardian as necessary.  Once the LPA’s are registered and sent back to us we will check them and then contact you to ask whether you wish to collect them or have them posted out.  Total fees for this service are £395.00 + VAT per LPA or £750.00 + VAT for two LPAs.

Fees for the Office of the Public Guardian are £92.00 per LPA.  Registration fees can be waived or reduced if a donor is in receipt of certain benefits.

We are able to provide the following additional services, if required – please ask for details of fees:-

1. Home or hospital visits
2. Acting as certificate provider and witnessing of signatures for LPAs
3. Writing to your doctor to confirm mental capacity (eg if you are in the early stages of dementia).
4. Making an application for remission or exemption from registration fees (eg if you are in receipt of pension credit).
